Qurrent Support

Qurrent is a capture-first daily-notes app for iPhone and Mac. Open it and the capture bar is already waiting; type a thought and file it. Notes land in a chronological daily stream, taggable with #hashtags, and sync silently over your own iCloud.

Requirements

• iPhone running iOS 26 or later
• Mac running macOS 26 or later
• An iCloud account if you want notes to sync between devices (optional — Qurrent works fine on a single device without one)

Getting started

1. Open the app and type. The capture bar is waiting at the bottom of Today — one tap and you're typing. Press return, or tap the arrow, to file.
2. Tag as you write. Put #tags at the end of a note. They lift out of the text into real tags, so your writing stays clean prose.
3. Find things later. The search tab takes plain words, or filters like #work, after:2026-08-01, day:2026-08-01, is:flagged.

Common questions

Where are my notes stored?

On your device, and in your own iCloud if you are signed in. There is no Qurrent account and no Qurrent server. See the privacy policy.

My notes aren't syncing between devices.

Check that both devices are signed in to the same iCloud account and that iCloud Drive is on. If sync is unavailable, Qurrent shows a quiet banner saying so — your notes are still saved safely on the device and will sync when it can. Reopening the app retries.

A note called "Conflicted copy" appeared.

The same note was edited on two devices before they could sync, and the other device's version was kept. The words this device had written are in the copy, on the same day and with the same tags, so nothing is lost. Merge what you want into the note, then delete the copy. A page works the same way, as "Title (conflicted copy)".

Why did my #tag disappear from the text?

It didn't — it became a real tag. Tags typed at the end of a note are lifted out of the body and shown as chips beneath it, so the note reads as plain prose. A # in the middle of a sentence is left alone as ordinary text.

Can I write a note for a future day?

Yes. File a note forward and it appears on that day instead, with a line on today's stream saying where it went.

How do I get my notes out?

Turn on Markdown backup in Settings, on iPhone or Mac. Qurrent writes a plain-markdown copy of your notes into your iCloud Drive, one file per day, readable in any text editor. It is one-way — Qurrent writes it and never reads it back — so it is a genuine escape hatch rather than a lock-in. What is "Agent access" in Mac settings?

An optional, off-by-default feature that lets an AI assistant running on your own Mac read and add notes. It listens only on your machine's loopback address and requires a token. It cannot delete anything. Leave it off if you have no use for it; details are in the privacy policy.

Why does it want calendar access?

Only to show which meeting you are in, so you can attach a note to it. Access is read-only and Qurrent never edits your calendar. Decline it and everything else works normally.

Is there an Apple Watch app?

Yes — a capture surface for getting a thought down quickly. It files into the same stream.

Is there an iPad or web version?

Not currently. Qurrent is iPhone and Mac, with the Watch for capture.

How do I delete everything?

Delete notes individually in the app, delete the app to remove the local copy, and remove the synced copy in Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Qurrent.

Recovering notes from the markdown backup

Markdown backup (Settings → Backup) keeps a plain-text copy of your notes in iCloud Drive, so your words are never locked inside the app. It is a copy of your notes as they are now: not a history, and not something Qurrent restores from.

What's in it

• One file per day, such as 2026/2026-09-01.md, in a folder for its year. Your first profile's days sit at the top; every other profile has a folder named after it, laid out the same way.
• For each note: the time it was written (in the time zone it was written in), its title, its words, and its tags on a line underneath.
• Pictures and files, in an assets folder beside the day, linked under the note they belong to.
• Pages, in Pages/: one file per page, its title as the heading, then its words, its tags and its pictures (kept in Pages/assets/).

What isn't

• Sensitive notes, in any form. They never leave the app.
• The meeting a note was attached to, whether it's flagged or pinned, where it was captured (Siri, the Watch, a share), and its labels.
• Earlier versions. When you edit a note, its file changes to match; when you delete one, it leaves the backup too, shortly afterwards. The backup can't bring back something you changed or deleted in the app.
• Captures still waiting to be filed (one Siri took while the app was busy, say), and notes from another device that haven't synced to this one yet.

If some files couldn't be written, the status line under Settings → Backup says so.

Getting a note back

1. Copy the folder first. Open it from Settings → Backup (Open folder), duplicate it or copy it somewhere else, and turn Markdown backup off until you've finished. The backup keeps itself matching the app, so while it's on it removes anything the app no longer has.
2. Find the note. Open its day's file in any text editor, or search the folder.
3. Paste it back. Copy the note's words into the capture bar — leave out the time and the bold title, and take out the indent on lines after the first — with the tag line on the end, so the tags lift back into real tags when you file it. Then, on the note, use Add title if it had one and Move to day… to put it back on its date. The time of day isn't restored.
4. Pages: make a new page with the same title and paste the words in.
5. Pictures and files: add them again from the assets folder.

Qurrent never reads the backup, so none of this happens by itself — there is no import. If Qurrent can't open your notes at all, the screen it shows instead has a Show my markdown backup button (when the backup was on), and the files open in any text editor without Qurrent.

If it involves a specific note, please don't send the note's contents unless you are happy to — a description is usually enough.
